Specialist PYP Teachers
Units of Inquiry
The Primary Years Programme takes an inquiry-led approach. A child measuring a garden bed is working with mathematics; a child weighing how a story should end is learning to build and defend an argument. What can look like play is demanding academic work — a future-focused education that strengthens intellect, character, and independence together, and prepares children for a world that will reward the ability to think.
In PYP, no subject stands alone. All subjects are taught together through real-world themes.
Reading, writing, speaking, and expressing ideas with confidence
Problem-solving, reasoning, and real-world application of numbers
Understanding the world through investigation, evidence, and inquiry
Exploring communities, cultures, history, and the world children are growing up in
Creative expression across visual art, music, drama, and dance
Building fluency, cultural understanding and confidence in communicating across other languages.
Movement, teamwork, wellbeing, and discipline
Students explore meaningful questions, investigate ideas, and apply learning to real-world situations. This is structured, intentional inquiry — not free play. It builds depth of understanding that rote learning cannot.
The 20-acre campus, Forest School, and outdoor spaces are active learning environments. Children develop observation, patience, ecological awareness, and scientific thinking through direct experience.
Every class maintains a teacher-to-student ratio of 1:3. The limit is deliberate: small enough for teachers to know each student well — how they think, where they struggle, what holds their attention. Learning here stays personal.
Every student learns within an Apple-integrated environment. Technology is used purposefully to support creativity, research, collaboration, and problem-solving — preparing students for a digital future from an early age.
The PYP develops skills that go beyond subject knowledge — skills that matter in higher education and in life. These are not soft extras. They are deliberately built into every unit of learning at Fostree:
At Fostree, assessment is continuous and holistic. Children are assessed through observations, projects, presentations, discussions, and portfolios — giving a complete picture of academic progress, personal development, and growth over time.
There are no high-stakes tests in the primary years. Instead, every child is known deeply by their teachers, and learning is tracked with care and intention. Parents receive meaningful insight into their child's development, not just grades.
